D-backs award Anderson, Drury with monthly honors

PHOENIX -The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Double-A Mobile right-handed pitcher Chase Anderson (@ChaseAnderson87) and Single-A Advanced Visalia infielder Brandon Drury the organization's Minor League Pitcher- and Player-of-the-Month for April, respectively.

Anderson, 26, went 3-2 with a 0.85 ERA (3 ER in 31.2 IP) and 31 strikeouts in 5 starts in April for the BayBears. He enters May carrying an active scoreless streak of 20.0 innings pitched (April 20-present) after beginning his season with 12.2 shutout innings (April 3-15). Anderson, who currently ranks among Southern League leaders in ERA (2nd) and strikeouts (6th), has not allowed a run to score after the second inning of any start. He earned Southern League Player of the Week honors (April 3-13) after throwing 12.0 shutout innings (5 hits, 2 walks, 12 strikeouts) in 2 starts. In 2013, Anderson was tabbed by Baseball America as possessing the Best Changeup in the D-backs farm system. A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, he was drafted in the ninth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Oklahoma.

Drury, 21, hit .292 (33-for-113) with 6 home runs, 25 RBI, 20 runs scored and 10 multi-hit affairs in 27 games in April for the Rawhide. He ranked among Minor League leaders in April with 16 extra-base hits (T-4th), 10 doubles (T-7th) and 60 total bases (T-9th); also led the Rawhide in home runs and RBI during the month. Drury entered the 2014 season rated as the D-backs No. 9 prospect by Baseball America and No. 13 by MLB.com. In 2013, he led the Minor Leagues in doubles (51). The Grants Pass, Ore. native was acquired by the D-backs as part of a 7-player trade with the Braves on Jan. 24, 2013 and was drafted by Atlanta in the 13th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
