D-backs award Peter O'Brien, Justin Donatella with monthly honors

The Arizona Diamondbacks named Triple-A Reno OF Peter O'Brien and Single-A Kane County right-handed pitcher Justin Donatella the organization's Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for April.

PHOENIX -The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Triple-A Reno OF Peter O'Brien and Single-A Kane County right-handed pitcher Justin Donatella (@jdonatella9) the organization's Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for April.
 
O'Brien, 25, hit .370 (30-for-81) with 5 doubles, 7 home runs and 21 RBI in 20 games in April for the Aces. He ranked among the Triple-A leaders in hits (T-1st), homers (T-1st), slugging percentage (2nd, .691), RBI (4th), extra-base hits (T-4th, 12) and OPS (6th, 1.060). O'Brien was also named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week from April 25-May 1, after he hit .500 (12-for-24) with 10 RBI, 7 runs scored, 4 home runs, 1 triple and 2 doubles. A native of Hialeah, Fla., he was acquired from the Yankees with cash considerations for infielder Martin Prado on July 31, 2014. He was selected by the Yankees in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Miami.
 
Donatella, 21, went 3-0 with a 0.39 ERA (1 ER in 23.0 IP) with 20 strikeouts against 2 walks in 4 starts for the Cougars in April and ranked fourth among Minor League starters in ERA. The La Jolla, Calif., native did not allow a run in his first 13.0 IP of the season, and was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for April 7-17. Donatella was selected by the D-backs in the 15th round of the 2015 First-Year Player draft from the University of California, San Diego.
 
Every month during the season, the D-backs Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
