PHOENIX -- Robbie Ray did a little bit of everything Sunday afternoon. The D-backs starter tossed a season-high 7 2/3 scoreless innings, contributed two hits to his team's 12-hit outburst, and guided them to a 6-0 win over the Marlins at Chase Field.
Ray (3-5) completed six innings for just the second time in his last 10 starts and went seven for just the second time all season. He limited Miami to three hits and struck out six. His 7 2/3 innings matched a career-high, previously set on July 7, 2015, against Texas.
"He threw the ball very well," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "Good tempo, he really kind of collected himself at times, he wasn't rushing as much."

Peter O'Brien hit an early three-run homer and eight players had a hit for the D-backs, who won consecutive games for the first time since May 28-29. It was also their first series victory since then, when they took two of three from San Diego.
"It's good to win the series," Arizona outfielder David Peralta said. "It's going to create confidence with us. We've got to be ready for the Dodgers and we've got to beat them."
Marlins starter Adam Conley (3-4) lasted just five innings, matching a season high with six runs allowed (five earned) on 11 hits. The right-hander only had two strikeouts after fanning 17 over his prior two outings. Miami never had a runner past first base, as it dropped two of three for the third straight series.
"It seem like the whole day I was somewhere between missing barrels and really solid contact," Conley said. "I think it was 11 hits and eight of them were on the ground. Nobody was really hitting me hard, but if my stuff was better they would swing and miss those pitches. If my stuff was worse, they barrel those up and probably hit the ball harder. It was just a weird day in general."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Bigger stage, same result: O'Brien has 17 home runs for Triple-A Reno this season, the most in the Minor Leagues. He was called up to the D-backs on Friday to receive his first opportunity to be the club's starting left fielder. O'Brien registered his first hit of the season with a deep three-run shot to left in the first to put Arizona ahead 4-0. Statcast™ projected the homer traveled 424 feet and left O'Brien's bat with an exit velocity of 108 mph.

McGowan delivers: Give the Marlins credit. They did not quit. Dustin McGowan followed Conley and allowed only one hit in three scoreless innings of relief, striking out four.

Pitchers who rake: Ray singled in the first, helping to extend an inning in which the D-backs sent nine batters to the plate. They scored four runs, the most they've plated in a first inning this season. Ray then added another single in the third, marking his fourth straight at-bat with a hit. Arizona entered with 27 hits by a pitcher, the most in the Majors.
"This team can swing the bats," Ray said. "We just push each other during BP, kind of play games and see who can get better."
UNDER REVIEW
Marlins manager Don Mattingly won a challenge in the bottom of the third. O'Brien hit a routine pop fly toward Miami second baseman Derek Dietrich. However, Dietrich dropped the ball when transitioning the ball from his glove to his hand. O'Brien was called safe at first, but the call was overturned and he was ruled the first out of the inning.
"To me, I thought he caught it clean and brought it down," Mattingly said. "I thought it was a pretty easy one myself."

WHAT'S NEXT
Marlins: The Marlins will send Wei-Yin Chen to the mound in the first game of the series that starts Monday at 10:10 p.m. ET in San Diego. Chen's aggressive style in the strike zone has proved to be a blessing and curse this season. His strikeout-per-nine-innings rate is 7.23, but he's also giving up 1.39 homers per nine. He has gone five straight starts without a win.
D-backs: The D-backs open a three-game series against the Dodgers on Monday at Chase Field at 6:40 p.m. MST. Right-handed ace Zack Greinke will face his former team for the first time since signing with Arizona this past offseason. He has won five straight starts, posting a 1.95 ERA during that stretch.
