SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- In his first team meeting of Spring Training, D-backs manager Chip Hale talked about expectations.
Not the expectations that come with a busy offseason of talented acquisitions, but the internal ones.

"Our expectations are to play hard every night," Hale said.
"Our expectations are to prepare and be ready and be the most prepared team in baseball, to be the most fundamentally sound team in baseball. You guys are always worried about wins and losses. The guys in that room, we get judged on that in the end, but if you just obsess over that, you're not going to be able to be successful."
To that end, Hale wants his team to go "back to zero" this spring when it comes to learning the fundamentals and participating in routine drills.
"Chip had a great message for us," D-backs outfielder A.J. Pollock said. "Basically, we've got to work like we've never played baseball before. Start from zero and get the fundamentals down. I think that's a pretty interesting way, and I think that's the right way to go about Spring Training."
