PHOENIX -- The D-backs just keep finding new ways to win games.
Trailing by three runs after an error-filled seventh inning, Arizona reeled off its 28th comeback win of the year and topped the Cardinals, 6-5, in a 10-inning thriller that ended with Rey Fuentes scoring on Chris Herrmann's walk-off single.
It marked the D-backs' second walk-off win in three days and their fifth of the season. They are now 7-1 in extra-inning games this season and 17-7 in one-run games.
"They believe in one another, they believe in the moment and they believe they can execute until their final out," Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said. "We hit balls all over the ballpark today that were caught -- good plays were made. There were several diving plays, several key outs that [St. Louis] corralled in big moments, but we didn't shut down. This team doesn't know how to do that."
St. Louis took a 5-2 lead in the seventh after a top half of the inning that featured three errors and negated the two runs the D-backs scrapped for an inning earlier. After St. Louis starter Carlos Martinez handcuffed the D-backs with 10 strikeouts over six innings, the odds appeared against them, as Arizona was 4-23 in games in which it trailed after six innings.
But they cut back into the Cardinals' lead in the eighth with an RBI single from Daniel Descalso and a sacrifice fly from Herrmann to make it 5-4.

In the ninth, David Peralta blasted a leadoff homer over the left-field fence that swung momentum back in the D-backs' favor.
"I was trying to control myself," Peralta said. "But in that big moment, I was really excited. I was telling myself, 'Just do something to help the team, to tie the game.' We've got like one more shot, one more opportunity to win this game, so I was really excited. I can't even describe that excitement."
With their bench running thin after a series of substitutions and a hand injury to Nick Ahmed, Herrmann entered the game in the eighth to pinch-hit, and he came through with the biggest play of the game two innings later.
"I know it was a tough matchup with Martinez out there today for a lot of those guys," Herrmann said. "When David hit that home run, it just changed the entire momentum of the game. As a team we just don't ever really give up. That's just been our motto all year: Whatever it takes."
