NEW YORK -- D-backs outfielder David Peralta underwent season-ending surgery on his right wrist Thursday morning in Phoenix.
Peralta is currently on the disabled list for the third time this season and it is the second time he has been on it as a result of his wrist. Peralta initially injured the wrist the final week of the 2015 season, and at the time, it was thought that rest and rehab would be enough to avoid surgery.
At some point this season, though, the wrist was irritated again, and Peralta missed time from May 9-June 6.

Peralta missed more than a month when he strained his lower back in mid-June, and he reinjured the wrist Aug. 5 when he hit it on the wall while making a catch.
The surgery aimed to stabilize the tendon in the wrist, and Peralta is expected to be fully recovered by Spring Training. Had Peralta opted for rest and rehab again, he probably would have been out until the last two weeks of the season and he would run the risk of having problems again next year.
"He's had a rough year with injuries, he's missed a ton of games," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "So let's just get him healthy and hopefully by Spring Training he'll be 100 percent and feeling great about his body."
After slashing .312/.371/.522 last season, Peralta fell off to a .251/.295/.433 line this year.
