D-backs dedicate Aaron Hill Field in Parker

PARKER, Ariz. -- The Arizona Diamondbacks today dedicated Aaron Hill Field, the 33rd "Diamonds Back" Field, presented by APS. The field is the first to be dedicated in 2013 and the first in Parker, Ariz.
 
"Hill is not only a fantastic player but a great community leader," said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. "We hope this field will be a great addition to the Parker community and will help kids to learn the importance of working together as a team to create success for many years to come."
 
Hall was among several key D-backs and Parker officials on hand at the dedication ceremony, including Hill and D-backs Broadcaster Jeff Munn, who emceed the dedication ceremony. Arizona Public Service Chairman & CEO Don Brandt, Parker Mayor Dan Beaver and Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation President Mike Kennedy were also on hand.

"I am very fortunate to wear the D-backs uniform every day," said Hill. "I hope that the new field will play host to a lot of dreams, a lot of bottom of the ninth situations for the kids, fun memories and a lot of life lessons."
 
Hill joined the D-backs in 2011 and has quickly become a key community leader. Last season he partnered with Hall and the Valley of the Sun United Way to lead a campaign to help strike out hunger. Also in 2012, Hill became just the second player in the modern era of Major League Baseball to hit for two cycles in a season on June 18 and June 29. He led all National League second basemen in average (.300), home runs (26), doubles (44), RBI (85), total bases (316), on-base percentage (.358) and slugging percentage (.521) which earned him his second Silver Slugger Award and was a finalist for the Hank Aaron Award which recognizes the most outstanding offensive performer in each league.

Since 2000, the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation has built or refurbished 33 baseball fields representing a community investment of more than $10 million. With support from APS, and charitable contributions from D-backs players, the program has allowed children from across the state to play baseball and softball at quality facilities. The fields generally feature new lights, a branded electronic scoreboard, new fencing and backstops, new irrigation and new grass and dirt with additional support provided by local contractors and businesses.
