D-backs reportedly agree with draftee Varsho

June 20th, 2017

The Arizona Diamondbacks and supplemental second-round pick Daulton Varsho have agreed to terms on a contract, according to MLB.com's Jim Callis. The club has not confirmed the report.
The No. 68 overall selection in the 2017 Draft, Varsho will receive an $800,100 signing bonus from the D-backs, the full slot value for the pick.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee product is the son of former Major Leaguer Gary Varsho. Varsho, the Panthers starting catcher, is very athletic for the position and possesses good power at the plate with a disciplined approach.
The 5-foot-9, 200-pound junior led his college team with a .362 batting average, 11 doubles, six triples and 11 home runs while finishing second with 39 RBIs this season. He drew more walks (46) than strikeouts (39) and also stole 10 bases in 2017.
Varsho was named Horizon League Player of the Year, ABCA First Team All-Midwest Region and First-Team All-Horizon League as a sophomore.
