D-backs hold tryout camp at Salt River Fields

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A little more than 100 players went through a tryout camp held by the D-backs on Saturday.

The camp ran eight hours long, lasting all the way until they turned the Salt River Fields lights off around 11 p.m., and there were four players that the D-backs had interest in talking to when all was said and done.

D-backs senior vice president of baseball operations De Jon Watson stayed until the end watching players. Over his career in the front office, Watson said he has found players through tryout camps who have gone on to help an organization.

The D-backs signed pitcher Bo Schultz out of a tryout camp like the one held on Saturday. Schultz pitched for three seasons in the Arizona Minor League system and appeared in four games for the D-backs last year.
