D-backs-Indians opener washed out

Game to be made up as part of doubleheader on Wednesday

CLEVELAND -- After a rain delay that stretched for more than 3 1/2 hours, the D-backs' opener vs. the Indians was postponed on Tuesday night.

The teams will play a traditional doubleheader on Wednesday, beginning at 1:05 p.m MST. Andrew Chafin will make his Major League debut in Game 1 against Trevor Bauer (4-7, 4.52 ERA). Chafin grew up about 50 miles from Cleveland and played college baseball at nearby Kent State University.

Vidal Nuno (0-3, 4.05 ERA) will face off against Josh Tomlin (5-8, 4.68 ERA) in the second game.

Tuesday's game was initially delayed at 7:57 p.m. in the fourth inning.

There was a brief attempt to try to resume play at 11:30, but the rain started pouring again and wouldn't let up.

"Right there at the end, they said [the rain] might miss us, it might not," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said. "But it just keeps building. We're just right in the trough."
