PHOENIX -- The D-backs' offense snapped out of its funk and Robbie Ray tossed seven quality innings as Arizona ended a five-game losing streak by beating the Yankees, 12-2, on Monday night at Chase Field.
It was the first time Ray (2-2) managed to get through seven innings this year. The left-hander allowed a pair of runs and scattered six hits. The D-backs gave Ray some runs to work with early thanks to a first-inning homer by Paul Goldschmidt and Arizona padded its lead with a five-run fifth, which included a three-run homer from Jake Lamb.
"That's as good as I've ever seen him," D-backs manager Chip Hale said of Ray. "In the strike zone, going after guys. He was using his breaking ball, his changeup, but he was really beating them with his fastball. You could hear him grunting out there."

The Yankees got on the board in the fourth on Chase Headley's RBI single and they added a run in the fifth when Jacoby Ellsbury tripled to center and came around to score when the relay throw hit Ellsbury in the helmet and bounced into the stands.
"The beauty of baseball is, you get to come back tomorrow," Ellsbury said. "We're confident as a team. We did come off a good homestand and we've just got to keep on playing."

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Busting out: After going 4-for-31 with runners in scoring position in getting swept by the Giants in a four-game weekend series, the D-backs' offense came through against the Yankees, collecting six hits with runners in scoring position. "It's awesome," Ray said of the run support. "The bats showed up early today. We came out of the gate and Goldy had that home run and it just went from there."

It's not easy being Green: Making his Major League debut, Green struck out the first batter he faced (Jean Segura) and held the D-backs to two runs over his first four frames. Green had an opportunity to help his cause in the fourth as Arizona intentionally walked Austin Romine to load the bases, bringing up the pitcher. Having not batted in a game since high school, Green was ahead, 2-0, before Ray came back to strike him out. "It was an awesome experience, but I felt like I got some balls up in the zone and they did some damage with it," Green said. "Overall I made a couple of mistakes that I'm not happy with, but it was OK."

Lamb chop: Lamb wound up just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle. He doubled in the first, singled in the third and homered in the fifth. It was quite a contrast from the four-game series with the Giants when he was 3-for-15.
"Really what we talked before the game was being aggressive in the zone and not letting things from the past bother you, and just go get it and look for a pitch you can handle. And for the most part, we did that," Hale said. "It was very impressive."

Tex drops one: The door swung open for the D-backs' five-run fifth inning when first baseman Mark Teixeira -- a five-time Gold Glove Award winner -- dropped what appeared to be a routine throw from Green on a Michael Bourn infield tapper. Because of the error, two of the six runs scored against Green were unearned.
"I don't know if it had some movement on it; I'm not sure," manager Joe Girardi said. "He's really good around the bag, fielding ground balls. It was somewhat of a surprise."

WELCOME TO THE SHOW
Green wasn't the only Yankee to make his debut on Monday, as right-hander Conor Mullee allowed one run in the sixth inning, walking three and hitting a batter. Mullee, 28, was 3-0 with three saves and a 1.02 ERA in 11 appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. More >

Yankees:Michael Pineda (1-4, 6.28 ERA) will try to turn around a shaky start to his season at 9:40 p.m. ET Tuesday as he faces the D-backs for the first time in his career. Pineda is 6-2 with a 2.44 ERA in nine career Interleague starts.
D-backs:Zack Greinke will start for the D-backs at 6:40 p.m. MST in the second game of this three-game set. Greinke has a career 5.92 ERA to go with a 2-4 record against the Yankees.
