Segura's opening shot propels D-backs

March 29th, 2016

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Jean Segura's leadoff home run ignited the Arizona Diamondbacks' offense Monday night as they pulled away for a 7-3 Cactus League victory over the San Francisco Giants.
Segura's homer, his third of the exhibition season, preceded a three-run fourth inning and a two-run fifth for the D-backs. Segura, who has hit safely in 15 of 16 games, entered Monday leading the Majors with 27 hits.
David Peralta also had a major hand in Arizona's offense. He drew a leadoff walk and came around to score in the fourth, then doubled home a run in the fifth.

D-backs starter Kyle Drabek lasted four innings, allowing one run and four hits.
Chris Heston, projected to be San Francisco's top long reliever, started for the Giants and surrendered four runs and six hits in four innings.
"I've got to stay away from the big inning," said Heston, whose ERA climbed from 5.65 to 6.38. "For me, there were too many innings when there was a crooked number up there."

"I thought the guys had good at-bats all night," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "Heston gave us fits all last year and threw a lot of offspeed pitches, so guys had to make adjustments."
D-backs Up Next: Minor League left-hander Anthony Banda will get his second start in a 1:10 p.m. MST Cactus League game Tuesday when the D-backs play host to the Rockies at Salt River Fields. It is Zack Greinke's turn in the rotation, but since Greinke is scheduled to face the Rockies in Monday's regular-season opener, he will throw in a Minor League game instead.
Giants Up Next: The Cactus League portion of the Giants' exhibition schedule ends Tuesday when they break camp and face Kansas City in a 6:05 p.m. PT contest at Surprise. Right-hander Clayton Blackburn, whom the Giants already have sent to Triple-A, will oppose Kansas City's Yordano Ventura.
