D-backs offer Will Ferrell full-time position with the team

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks, @LosDbacks) have offered free agent Will Ferrell a full-time position with the organization following a half-inning tryout. The announcement was made by D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall.

"Though we saw nothing on the field today that leads us to believe Will has a future between the lines, we do think he can help the organization in another capacity," said Hall. "His tools seem to indicate that he would be helpful potentially cleaning uniforms, interning in the front office, dragging the infield or perhaps helping us prepare the now famous Churro Dog."

Ferrell appeared for 10 Major League teams today including the D-backs, where he played left field in the top of the seventh inning and had three hits land near him - a single, a double and a triple. Following his appearance, Chief Baseball Officer Tony La Russa released him from the organization after deeming that he had gone from "prospect to suspect" in less than a full inning. "Who is the scout that signed this guy?" La Russa asked after Ferrell departed Salt River Fields at Talking Stick via helicopter. "We should release him, too."

#FerrellTakesTheField was trending all day as the actor made his way around the Valley as part of a production for a new HBO Special from Funny or Die, in partnership with Major League Baseball. The special was dedicated to the fight against cancer, as he is helping organizations dedicated to the cause including Cancer for College and Stand Up to Cancer.
