Pollock sees change in results, not approach
D-backs outfielder hitting his stride in May after sluggish start in April
ST. LOUIS -- D-backs outfielder A.J. Pollock said he hasn't changed his approach at the plate over the last several weeks. The only thing different has been the results.
Pollock was named National League Player of the Week along with Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig after going 11-for-22 with a .909 slugging percentage.
"He's been outstanding," Arizona manager Kirk Gibson said.
Pollock started the season in a funk at the plate and was hitting .196 midway through April.
After raising his average to .258 by the end of April, Pollock caught fire over the last 10 days, going 16-for-32 with an on-base plus slugging mark of 1.387.
"I think I've had the same approach," Pollock said when asked what the difference was for him. "The beginning of the year was a test. You kind of wonder if you have the right approach and have a little doubt, but eventually, you realize that you've just got to trust what you're doing. I feel like I've had the same approach ever since a couple of weeks into the year. I think a couple of things started to click a little bit. A couple of balls fell in, not lining out at people."
