PHOENIX -- For the second straight night, Jean Segura smacked a pair of home runs to key an offensive outburst by the D-backs, who beat the Rockies, 11-6, on Wednesday night to record their first series sweep at Chase Field this season.
"It took long enough," D-backs manager Chip Hale said on finally getting a home sweep. "We'd have liked to have done it earlier, but the guys are playing hard. We talk to them a lot about keep playing nine innings, keep playing hard, and they've never stopped. Even during the tough times, the losing streaks, they've never stopped playing hard."
Charlie Blackmon gave the Rockies a leadoff homer of their own, but Colorado was unable to capitalize on a pair of first-inning walks from Rubby De La Rosa, leaving the bases loaded.
It was all D-backs from that point on as they scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first and then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth. Segura was in the middle of the five-run rally with a two-run homer off Jeff Hoffman (0-4).
"It's a good offensive club that's hot right now," Rockies manager Walt Weiss said. "They've got Segura. He's turned into a heck of a player. Their offense shows up against us and once they get rolling it's tough to stop them."
After the Rockies got a two-run homer in the top of the sixth from Daniel Descalso, Chris Owings answered with one of his own in the bottom half.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Jean is a HR machine: Segura got the D-backs off on the right foot with a leadoff homer. It was his sixth leadoff homer of the season and he became the first Arizona player to ever hit leadoff homers in consecutive games. With five hits on the night, Segura increased his hit total to 182.
"I'm looking for a good pitch to hit, something middle of the plate to put the barrel on the ball," Segura said. "I don't try to do too much." More >

Celebrate Charlie: Nights like Wednesday obscure the tremendous year Blackmon has had. The homer was his 27th this season -- eight more than his previous career high (2014). It was his ninth first-inning leadoff homer this season and the 21st of his career. He also singled in the fifth and tripled in the seventh. Yet, the Rockies couldn't capitalize on loaded bases in the first and after the D-backs built their lead, he spent much of the night forlornly staring at replays of D-backs running around the bases from his position in center.
"He's done a lot of damage on the road, which is good to see because it gives him even more credibility on a national level," Weiss said of Blackmon, who has homered in four of his last six games. "He's turned into a big-time player."

HR streak With a home run in the eighth, D-backs outfielder Brandon Drury has homered in three straight games and has RBIs in each of his last six games. Drury has gotten more regular playing time of late and has made the most of it hitting .422 over his last 18 games.
"Drury is swinging the bat," Hale said. "Looks a lot like the end of spring, looks real confident. He's worked really hard all year, he's getting those consistent at-bats now. I think things are starting to go his way and the confidence is there. He's a talented kid, we knew that, we just needed to get the at-bats for him."

Unable to gain traction: Hoffman survived the first four innings with two runs against him, even though several balls were hit hard. But it fell apart in the fifth, when Braden Shipley singled, Segura homered for the second time and Chris Owings doubled to open the frame. By the time Hoffman left he had given up four hits and five runs. However, because catcher Tom Murphy dropped a throw home from first baseman Mark Reynolds when Owings scored the third run of the inning, three of the runs were unearned. Hoffman, the key catch in the trade that sent shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to Toronto last year, hasn't gained traction in his five Major League starts.
"I felt a lot more comfortable today, but I kind of fell apart in the fifth," said Hoffman said. "I probably had the best game, stuff-wise, since I've been here, but at some point it's got to come together where I have both -- command and stuff. That's going to be a continued work in progress."

The D-backs and Rockies combined to score 266 runs in their season series. That's the highest combined total in the divisional era (since 1969). The previous high was 253, which was done twice -- D-backs-Rockies in 2002 and Padres-Rockies in 2001.

Rockies: Righty Tyler Chatwood (11-9, 3.82 ERA) will open a homestand Friday night against the Padres (6:40 p.m. MT) -- the same team he held to one run in 6 2/3 innings while beating them last Friday at Petco Park.
D-backs:Archie Bradley will get the ball Thursday night at 6:40 p.m. MST when the D-backs open a four-game set against the Dodgers at Chase Field. Bradley lasted just three innings in his last start against the Giants, as he allowed five runs on eight hits.
