SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- D-backs left-hander Patrick Corbin would like to use his changeup more in 2016, so he spent a good portion of his start in Sunday's 8-3 win over the Cubs working on it.
"I thought they were all pretty effective today," Corbin said of the changeups he threw. "A couple of swings on it and I was able to throw it over. I thought my fastball command was all right. There were a couple of pitches I think I left up a little bit early in some at-bats. Overall, I felt pretty good and felt strong."
Corbin, who allowed a pair of unearned runs in his two innings, threw the changeup just six percent of the time in 2015 compared with 29 percent sliders.

During his rookie year in 2012, the percentages between the two pitches were much closer, with Corbin throwing the slider 16 percent of the time and the change 15 percent.

"My changeup is probably something I'm trying to get to where I can throw it as much as my slider and rely on that pitch when I'm in jams or trying to get ahead," Corbin said. "It's another pitch I want to show lefties and righties to keep them off my slider and fastball a little bit."

Dodgers right-hander Kenta Maeda shut the D-backs down for two innings Saturday, but that doesn't mean that the team came away from the Japanese free agent's outing with nothing to show for it.
"We got some film on him against our guys," D-backs manager Chip Hale said. "We took a lot of pitches to see what he had and he threw the ball very well against us."
The D-backs figure to see Maeda several times during the regular season.
Errorless no more
Third baseman Jake Lamb's throwing error in the second inning was the first miscue by the D-backs this spring.
"It had to happen [sometime]," Hale said.
Sunday's game notes
• The D-backs' bullpen allowed one run in seven innings.
"The pitchers all threw the ball well," Hale said. "I was really happy with everybody. [Matt] Stites was as good as I've seen him."
• Lamb picked up two hits in three at-bats after going 0-for-4 with four strikeouts against the Dodgers on Saturday.

"That's a good bounce-back game for Jake after yesterday," Hale said. "Had a really good [batting practice out there]. Just working on trying to get back to the middle of the field and he did that."
