Shipley flirts with no-no, but loses it in seventh

Through six innings Thursday, right-hander Braden Shipley had yet to allow a hit, facing the minimum. His gem quickly unraveled in the seventh inning, and Class A South Bend lost, 3-1, to Dayton.

Shipley, the D-backs' No. 2 prospect and No. 74 overall, lost his no-hit bid when Beau Amaral led off the seventh inning with a triple. Shipley's night ended soon after, having allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out six batters and walked none.

Shipley was making his second start of the season after being held back in extended spring training to begin the season because of soreness in his right shoulder. He has shown no ill effects since joining South Bend. In 11 1/3 innings, he has a 0.79 ERA and a 10-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
