DENVER -- There were a lot of mixed emotions in the D-backs' clubhouse following Sunday's 9-7 walk-off loss to the Rockies.
On the one hand, there was disappointment that they dropped two straight games against a division rival. But they also were happy with finishing a marathon 10-game road trip with a 7-3 record.
The D-backs open a nine-game homestand on Monday against the Phillies before facing the Giants and Padres.
"In my opinion, I think most of the guys in the room are upset," manager Chip Hale said. "They're upset we lost the last two. I think they're pretty ticked off about it, but there's no doubt they know what kind of team we are right now. They know what kind of starts we're getting out of our starters, they know our bullpen is fortified and they know that they're swinging the bats. So we'll take that momentum home, and we'll go to with the Phillies."
The trip opened with a four-game sweep in Philadelphia before the D-backs split a two-game series in Toronto and a four-game set in Denver.
So yes, 7-3 is good, but it is a little less so when the trip started 7-1.
"We're definitely upset with dropping the final two," third baseman Jake Lamb said. "But there was definitely a different feel in the clubhouse and out on the field during this road trip, and it's going to continue. Whether it's a bad play or a bad at-bat, guys are picking each other up. Whether it's defense, pitching, everyone's picking each other up."
The D-backs must now find a way to take some of the road success they've had and transfer it to Chase Field.
Through their first 38 games at home, the D-backs are 13-25. Only the last-place Braves have a worse home mark.
"We had a really good road trip," Hale said. "I'm happy with the way these guys performed. The effort was relentless. A lot of guys are nicked up. This was a long trip, and it's tough to play four days in the altitude, so we have to really take care of our bodies this next week and make sure we don't get any injuries."
