First they remade their front office by hiring GM Mike Hazen, who in turn hired Torey Lovullo to replace Chip Hale as manager.
Then they dealt infielder Jean Segura to the Mariners in a five-player trade that netted right-hander Taijuan Walker and infielder Ketel Marte.
• D-back hold intriguing chips
Friday, after non-tendering right-hander Rubby De La Rosa and catcher Welington Castillo, the D-backs agreed to terms on a two-year, $4 million deal with free-agent backstop Jeff Mathis.
Hazen will meet with the media each evening and we'll have his daily thoughts here. Be sure to use the comment section at the end of each story to share your opinions. You can also follow me on Twitter @SteveGilbertMLB for news throughout the day.
• New GM active
How does Lovullo plan to divide up the playing time between Mathis and Chris Herrmann? Does he feel Brandon Drury could be a fit at second base with Segura out of the picture? We'll ask him those questions and more when he meets with the media Wednesday afternoon.
One thing that's for sure about the Winter Meetings is that you never know what might happen when all 30 GMs are in the same hotel together. Stay tuned to see what happens.
