D-backs select Alex Young with second-round selection in 2015 Draft

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) selected left-handed pitcher Alex Young (@TCUYoung23) out Texas Christian University with their second-round pick (43rd overall) in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, as announced by D-backs Director, Scouting Deric Ladnier.

Young, 21, went 9-2 with a 2.31 ERA (23 ER in 89.2 IP) and 91 strikeouts in 16 games (15 starts) for the Horned Frogs. The First-Team All-Big 12 hurler was rated by Baseball America as the 11th-best college pitcher and by MLB.com as the No. 18 pitcher overall.

The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder, who spent the majority of his first 2 seasons (2013-14) in the TCU bullpen, was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American and was Second-Team All-Big 12 in 2013 after going 7-4 with 5 saves and a 2.66 ERA (12 ER in 40.2 IP).

Young did not factor in tonight's Super Regional game vs. Texas A&M, allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings.

The draft will continue tomorrow with Rounds 3-10 starting at 10:00 a.m. AZT/1:00 ET and Rounds 11-40 on Wednesday beginning 9:00 a.m. AZT/12:00 PT.
