D-backs select Zack Godley from Double-AA Mobile; Transfer Phil Gosselin to 60-day disabled list

Arizona also optioned Matt Stites to Triple-A Reno following last night's game

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Zack Godley from Double-A Mobile and transferred infielder Phil Gosselin (fractured left thumb) to the 60-day disabled list, as announced by D-backs Sr. Vice President & General Manager Dave Stewart.

In addition, the D-backs optioned right-handed pitcher Matt Stites to Triple-A Reno following last night's game.

Godley, 25, combined to go 9-4 with a 2.72 ERA (27 ER in 89.1 IP) and 86 strikeouts in 17 games (15 starts) with Single-A Visalia and Mobile in 2015. The California League midseason All-Star, who is being used primarily as a starting pitcher for the first time in his career, has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 11 of his last 15 starts, and has limited opponents to a .231 average (77-for-333) on the season.

In 3 Minor League seasons in the Chicago Cubs (2013-14) and D-backs' (2015) organizations, the 6-foot-3, right-hander has gone 15-7 with 15 saves, a 2.73 ERA (52 ER in 171.1 IP) and 191 strikeouts in 71 games (15 starts). Godley was selected by the Cubs in the 10th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, and was traded to Arizona, along with right-handed pitcher Jeferson Mejia, on Dec. 9, 2014 for catcher Miguel Montero.

Godley will wear No. 52 in his Major League debut tonight.

Gosselin, 26, was acquired from the Atlanta Braves on June 20 for right-handed pitchers Bronson Arroyo and Touki Toussaint. He was hitting .325 (13-for-40) with 4 doubles and 2 RBI in 20 games with the Braves prior to his injury.

Stites, 25, has pitched in 4 games over 2 stints with the D-backs this season (1 ER in 2.1 IP). He began the season on the disabled list with right elbow inflammation.
