D-backs sign Draft picks Tabor, Watson Jr.

The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) agreed to terms with 2 additional selections from the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, third-round pick RHP Matt Tabor and 18th-round round pick OF Kevin Watson Jr.
 
In total, Arizona agreed to terms with 31 of its 41 selections from the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, including each of its first 13, 19 of its first 21 and 30 of its first 36. The deadline to sign 2017 draft selections was today at 2:00 p.m. MST.
 
RHP Matt Tabor (Round 3, Pick 82) | B/T: R/R | Age: 18 (7/14/98) | 6-2, 160 | Milton Academy (Mass.)

  • He was the 2017 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior, after posting a 0.42 ERA (4 ER in 42.0 IP) with 75 strikeouts and 8 walks.
  • He was rated by Baseball America as the No. 51 high school prospect in the 2017 draft.
  • He grew from 5-foot-4 as a sophomore to 6-foot-2 his senior year.
  • Committed to attend Elon University (N.C.)
  • For his senior project at Milton Academy, he constructed a miniature replica of Fenway Park and held a whiffle ball tournament that raised $6,750, with proceeds benefitting the Jimmy Fund.
