Walker could return to rotation Wednesday

June 11th, 2017

PHOENIX -- Torey Lovullo stopped short of guaranteeing it, but the D-backs manager said Sunday that right-hander is likely to come off the disabled list Wednesday and face the Tigers that night in Detroit.
"There are a couple more hurdles we want to clear with him, so we're not going to officially say that it's Wednesday. But it's looking like and trending as if it's going to be [then]," Lovullo said.
Walker has been on the 10-day DL since May 20 because of a blister on his pitching hand. He was 4-3 with a 3.46 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 52 innings in his first season with the D-backs.
Walker threw a bullpen session Saturday. It was the first time he'd done so without a protective covering over the injury.
Who follows Walker in the rotation is still to be determined. The D-backs are off Thursday, then start a three-game series in Philadelphia. The probable starts for that series are not set, and either or will be moved to the bullpen, Lovullo said.
Injury updates
• Center fielder A.J. Pollock (right groin strain) is running at nearly 100 percent but needs to run the bases early this week as the final hurdle before he likely begins a rehab assignment. Pollock has been out since May 15.
"Once we get full clearance on him, I feel like some rehab at-bats will be necessary," Lovullo said. "That will be my input."
• Left fielder (right groin tendinitis) is expected to slowly begin baseball activities this week at Salt River Fields while the team is on its eight-game road trip.
