D-backs to host APS Green Series during weekend's homestand against Cubs

D-backs, APS Promote Energy Efficiency During Green Series

PHOENIX – The Arizona Diamondbacks, in partnership with Arizona Public Service (APS), have deemed this weekend’s (June 22-24) three-game series against the Chicago Cubs the APS Green Series. On Friday and continuing through Sunday, fans coming to Chase Field will learn how to become more energy efficient and help protect the environment.

The Green Series also kicks off the APS Energy All-Star Challenge, where one lucky APS customer will win an exclusive D-backs VIP Experience for four, which includes dugout box tickets, watching batting practice on the field, team merchandise and other prizes.

APS customers who take an educational challenge about ways to save energy are automatically entered into the sweepstakes. Customers can take the Energy All-Star Challenge by going to aps.com/energyallstar or by filling out an entry form at an APS community event, including at Chase Field during the APS Green Series.

“APS is a leading force in renewable energy and energy efficiency efforts and a great partner to the D-backs,” said D-backs President & CEO Derrick Hall. “The D-backs are proud to once again team up with APS for this series to educate fans on sustainable renewable energy and make an impact on the community to become more energy efficient.”

The Green Series will include:

APS Customer Programs (Friday – Sunday) – Energy efficiency experts will be at Chase Field to educate and answer questions about the many APS programs available to help customers reduce their monthly energy bills.

Renewable Energy (Friday – Sunday) – 100 percent of the energy used to light Chase Field, power the scoreboard and broadcast the game across Arizona and the country will come from renewable energy.

APS Green Street (Friday and Saturday) – Vendors will line 4th Street adjacent to the stadium, providing advice on how to become more energy efficient, information on  purchasing an electric vehicle and tips on recycling.  The Green Street will be located near the APS Solar Pavilion just south of Jefferson Street.

Solar Man and Watt Waster (Friday and Sunday) – Solar Man and his nemesis Watt Waster will join Baxter in helping to entertain fans.

Compact Florescent Light Bulb Giveaway (Saturday) – APS will distribute 10,000 free energy-saving bulbs to fans after the game.

APS Energy All-Star Fan Giveaway (Sunday) – APS will hand out 5,000 paper fans before the game.

APS Volunteer Clown Troupe (Sunday) – The Troupe will be in the Sandlot, located in the Upper Concourse in left field, painting faces.

“The Green Series is a wonderful way for us to get the word out about the many energy saving programs we offer to customers,” said Terry Orlick, APS Director of Marketing. “Fans who come to the game this weekend will enjoy great baseball and take away information to help them save on their monthly energy bill.”
