D-backs to host Native American Recognition Day this Saturday with broadcast in native Navajo language

D-backs 15th Annual Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball & Softball Tournament Reaches Record Attendance

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks will host Native American Recognition Day, presented by Gila River Casinos, this Saturday at 7:10 p.m. at Chase Field. The game will be broadcast in native Navajo language on KTNN AM 660 from Window Rock, Ariz. with Dan Arnold and George LaFrance calling the action and will be the first Major League Baseball game to be broadcast in Native American language.

Currently, the D-backs are hosting their 15th annual Inter-Tribal Youth Baseball & Softball Tournament (July 10-13) with games played throughout the Salt River Reservation and Tempe. The D-backs are the only MLB club to host an inter-tribal tournament and this year's tournament is the largest in the team's history with more than 1,300 participants that hail from five states and represent 44 tribes. Native American Recognition Day festivities will begin at 5 p.m. and include Native American drum groups, dancers, vocalists, royalty and more. All 74 teams from the inter-tribal baseball and softball tournament will be recognized during a pregame parade at Chase Field as part of Native American Recognition Day, presented by Gila River Casinos. Miss Native American USA Shaylin Shabi will sing the national anthem and Miss Gila River Lisa Hendricks will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
