D-backs uncertain who will take Walker's spot

No decision has been made on who will start Monday's series opener

May 25th, 2017

One day after using reliever and five of his bullpen mates to fill in for injured starter , D-backs manager Torey Lovullo was not ready to say what the team will do when Walker's turn comes around again Monday in Pittsburgh.
"Not at this point," Lovullo said. "We certainly love what Randall did. He did a great job, so we're going to see how he feels for the next couple of days and then have an announcement. Yesterday, it was a little bit of a challenging day for us and Randall stepped up and did a great job. We felt like we could've extended him a little longer, but it was time to turn it over to the bullpen."
Delgado went four innings and threw 61 pitches vs. the White Sox.

When Delgado was acquired by the D-backs prior to 2013, he was viewed as a starter, but after struggling to be consistent with a third pitch, he was moved to the bullpen. He got the start Wednesday simply because he was the pitcher who was the most stretched out, having thrown multiple innings during his relief stints.
While he could start Monday as part of another bullpen game, it doesn't sound as if the team is considering making him a starter going forward.
"We like exactly what he's been doing out of the bullpen," Lovullo said. "It's been very powerful for us and we want to make sure that we focus on that through this process. I think anything is possible in this game, is what I've learned over the course of time. What we want to do is take it piece by piece for right now, see how he's feeling over the next couple of days, see how Taijuan is doing, as well, and then make the best decision moving forward."
Walker will not be eligible to come off the 10-day disabled list by Monday.
Injury updates
• Left fielder , who was scratched from Wednesday's lineup with tightness in his left hip flexor, was out of the lineup again Thursday with Chris Herrmann getting the start.
"[Tomas is] going to run through some baseball activities and we'll see how he feels today," Lovullo said. "So available at some point today hopefully off the bench."
• Center fielder A.J. Pollock, who is on the DL with a strained right groin, was scheduled to throw, do some hitting and light running at Salt River Fields, the team's Spring Training facility on Thursday.
