PHOENIX -- Zack Godley did enough to earn a win in the D-backs' 7-1 win over the Tigers at Chase Field, but whether or not he did enough to stay in the rotation is apparently still an open question.
Godley was starting in place of the injured Shelby Miller, who is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Godley had also replaced Miller on April 26, but was immediately sent back to Triple-A Reno following the game.
Braden Shipley got the next shot at filling in for Miller, but after walking six in an outing last week against the Nationals, he was sent back to Reno, and Godley was called up Wednesday to start.
"Well, he did a great job, I will say that," manager Torey Lovullo said when asked if Godley had earned another start five days from now. "We're going to probably sit down and talk about that in the coming days, and figure out the best situation for us going forward."

Godley contributed in all facets Wednesday. On the mound, he allowed just one run on four hits over seven innings. Defensively, he did a nice job of covering first base on a double-play ball in the third. And at the plate, he drew a crucial walk to load the bases in the sixth, setting up a key two-run single by A.J. Pollock.
"On a night when we needed somebody to step up, Zack Godley did a great job for us," Lovullo said. "Seven outstanding innings, six strikeouts, one run. What more could you ask for? Kept some very, very dangerous hitters off-balance throughout the course of the game. He controlled everything for me."
Godley allowed a run in the second, but after a leadoff single in the third, he did not allow another hit. Of the 21 outs he recorded, 14 came on the ground and six were strikeouts. The only out in the air was by the final batter he faced -- Justin Upton in the seventh.
"I think the biggest thing for me tonight was establishing my changeup and off-speed stuff, getting them off-balance, and then being able to get ground balls with the fastball," Godley said. "I felt like I was in a groove from the beginning. It ended up working out really well."
Godley said he did not know whether he would remain in the rotation.
"That's up to them to decide," Godley said. "All I can do is keep doing what they ask of me. If they ask me to start, I'll start. If they ask me to go out of the 'pen, I'll do that. If they want me to go back down, I'll do that too. It's their decision, and I'll just try to keep taking advantage of the opportunities they give me."
He sure seemed to do that Wednesday.
