MIAMI -- An early error that accounted for an unearned run didn't slow down Zack Greinke. The right-hander made it through seven innings, allowing one earned run while striking out eight, and Nick Ahmed delivered a two-run single in the eighth that rallied the D-backs to a 3-2 win over the Marlins on Thursday at Marlins Park.
Arizona's rally snapped the Marlins' four-game winning streak and foiled a strong first start of the season for left-hander Jeff Locke, who was reinstated from the disabled list Thursday after being out all year with left shoulder tendinitis.
Greinke improved to 5-0 in his career against the Marlins.
"I felt good for the most part," Greinke said. "I made a lot of good pitches in an inning where I gave up a double and walk to Dee Gordon. Made a bad pitch to [Giancarlo] Stanton, got a little sloppy that inning, but got better after that."

"I thought he was really good, honestly," said Miami manager Don Mattingly, who had Greinke during his tenure with the Dodgers. "I know our guys were really battling, and it's easy for me to sit here and say, 'You got to get him up. You got to get him on the plate.' I've seen enough of that. That changeup is hard to recognize. He's throwing more sliders now. He can mix that curveball when he wants to, and he's mixing to both sides of the plate."
Locke was lifted with two outs in the sixth inning after Ahmed's single to right put runners at first and second for Paul Goldschmidt. At 80 pitches, Mattingly lifted Locke for David Phelps. Goldschmidt delivered an RBI single, closing the gap to a run, but Phelps retired the next four he faced.

The D-backs capitalized on a pair of walks by Kyle Barraclough to open the eighth inning. Ahmed provided the go-ahead single off Brad Ziegler, with the two runs charged to Barraclough.
"It wasn't that great a pitch," Ziegler said of the decisive hit. "It got up a little bit. I gave him something he could hit the other way. I kind of left it over the plate a little more than I wanted to."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Bradley bringing heat: After surrendering the lead in the top of the eighth, the Marlins mounted a one-out rally off lefty Andrew Chafin when Gordon singled, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Archie Bradley came in relief and Gordon swiped second. But Bradley struck out Stanton on eight pitches, capped by an 84 mph knucklecurve. The bigger showdown came after Christian Yelich walked, as Bradley struck out Marcell Ozuna with a 97 mph fastball.
"I thought the pitching did a really good job of staying with the gameplan," said D-backs manager Torey Lovullo. "We won the game, [and] it's because of them, because of the entire group."

Stanton stays hot in second spot: A couple of days' rest and Stanton came back refreshed Thursday night. The 27-year-old exited Tuesday's win over the Phillies in the sixth inning due to cramping in his left hamstring. He was out of the lineup Wednesday afternoon, but came through Thursday with an RBI single with two outs in the third inning. The liner to the gap in right-center allowed J.T. Riddle, who doubled, to score easily from third, and Gordon raced home from first after right fielder Chris Owings misplayed Stanton's ball for an error.
"I thought our guys hung in there," Mattingly said. "G gets us a big hit. We talk about, to beat guys like [Greinke], you've got to have your pitcher keep you in the game. Locke did that for us. He gave us a chance to win."

SOUND SMART WITH YOUR FRIENDS
No longer are there all zeros in the stolen-base column for Justin Bour. The Marlins first baseman, who has 15 home runs, stole the first base of his career. It came in his 310th MLB game. Bour singled and stole second in the fourth inning.

UNDER REVIEW
The Marlins made a bold challenge in the eighth inning on Chris Herrmann's steal of second base. Herrmann had the base stolen easily, as catcher J.T. Realmuto's throw was high, causing Riddle to jump to make the catch. But Herrmann made a small hop while settling on the base, and Riddle applied the tag. After a review of two minutes, eight seconds, the ruling was the call stands.

Also in the eighth inning, the Marlins did get a review call to go their way. A crew-chief review was granted on Rey Fuentes' sacrifice bunt. Initially ruled safe at first, the call was overturned in 42 seconds.

WHAT'S NEXT
D-backs: Left-hander Patrick Corbin (4-5, 5.14 ERA) takes the mound for the D-backs on Friday in the second game of a four-game series at Marlins Park. Corbin looks to bounce back in the 4:10 p.m. MST start. He was tagged with seven runs on 10 hits over four innings in his last outing at Milwaukee.
Marlins: Righty Jose Urena (3-2, 3.14) makes his sixth start since shifting from the bullpen Friday at 7:10 p.m. ET vs. the D-backs. The right-hander threw one scoreless inning of relief last year against Arizona.
