PHOENIX -- As long as he continues to feel as good as he did Friday, D-backs right-hander Zack Greinke will return from the disabled list to start Tuesday night's game against the Mets at Citi Field.
Greinke started a rookie Arizona League game last week and threw three shutout innings. He then made a rehab start for Triple-A Reno on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City and allowed five runs on nine hits over five innings.
More important than the numbers, however, was that Greinke did not have any discomfort in his left oblique, which he injured during his June 28 start against the Phillies.
"Greinke threw the ball well," D-backs manager Chip Hale said of the outing against Salt Lake. "I watched his game on my MiLB app and he threw the ball well. Gave up a couple of home runs on fastballs that were elevated. In Salt Lake, the ball will jump out of there. But he threw all his pitches. I think he was up to 95 mph, which is good and he felt good. We're planning that as long as everything is good we'll start him Tuesday in New York against the Metropolitans."
Prior to the outing against the June 28 start against the Phillies, Greinke had won eight of his previous nine starts.
As for who Greinke could replace in the rotation, Hale did not rule out moving one of the current five starters to the bullpen rather than optioning someone to the Minors.
