MIAMI -- The Marlins are putting up big offensive numbers lately, but their starting pitchers haven't worked deep into games. Dan Straily halted that trend on Wednesday afternoon, going 6 2/3 innings while striking out 10 in Miami's 10-2 win over the Phillies at Marlins Park.
Justin Bour belted two home runs and drove in three and Marcell Ozuna added a home run and three RBIs, giving Straily plenty of support. The 28-year-old right-hander handled the rest, giving up two runs (one earned) on nine hits, and the Marlins completed a three-game sweep of the Phillies, running their season-high win streak to four games.
"It was a lot of fun," said Straily, who had his fourth career game with 10 strikeouts or more. "I just wanted to go out and give a quality effort. I've been fortunate to say this the last couple of starts -- you really have to not pitch to the scoreboard. You have to go up there and keep making pitches. Everybody, it seemed like, was contributing and just doing their job. When everyone does their job, it turns into a pretty good baseball game."

Straily threw a Marlins season high of 113 pitches, and he won this third straight start. According to Statcast™, the right-hander had 13 swinging strikes, with nine coming on his slider, and 20 called strikes.
"He's been probably our most consistent guy," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said. "He gives you close to six every time he pitches. You'd probably have to say he's been our best pitcher and most consistent guy this year. It was nice to have him pitching today. He's a guy who is going to change speeds, mixing it up, and keep them off-balance a bit."

Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola gave up four runs in three innings, and he was replaced after 73 pitches. Aaron Altherr had an RBI single for the Phillies, but it came with his team down by nine runs.

"He's fine; 73 pitches in three innings, too many pitches for me," Phils manager Pete Mackanin said of his decision to take out Nola after only three frames. "I didn't want him to get hurt and end up throwing 100 pitches in four innings."
Ricardo Pinto, called up prior to the game when Vince Velasquez was placed on the 10-day disabled list with an elbow flexor strain, made his Major League debut in the fourth inning for the Phillies, relieving Nola. Pinto worked two innings in his big league debut, allowing six hits and four runs. He walked three and struck out two.

Bour homered in the fifth and sixth innings, and the left-handed-hitting first baseman finished May with 11, which is one behind the franchise record for home runs in that month. Giancarlo Stanton (2012) and Dan Uggla (2008) share the Marlins' mark for homers in May at 12.
The Marlins got to Nola early, scoring three runs, with Ozuna providing the big hit -- his opposite-field, two-run homer. Christian Yelich had an RBI single in the first inning.

Bour tacks on more HRs: Make a mistake, and Bour will make you pay. The first baseman helped break the game open with his solo home run to right off Pinto to open the fifth inning. The drive padded the lead to six runs. Statcast™ projected the home run at 382 feet with an exit velocity of 102.3 mph and a launch angle of 34 degrees. "If you try to do too much, it's not going to happen," Bour said. "The only thing you can do is go out there and try to do your job. That's it. We're going to get it rolling here and add on the wins."
Sliding out of jam: Down five, the Phillies had a chance to chip back into the game in the fifth inning when Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera each singled. With two outs, Cesar Hernandez's infield single loaded the bases. On the play, second baseman Dee Gordon saved a run by keeping the ball in the infield, setting up a showdown between Straily and Altherr. But on three pitches, Straily struck out Altherr looking at an 82.9 mph slider, keeping the Phillies off the board.
"We had 10 hits today. I'd like to see them result in more runs than we've been scoring," Mackanin said.

"They were one swing away from being down only one," Straily said. "You have to look at each inning and each pitch, because you never know when the most important pitch is going to come. I'd say in the game, it was that at-bat. If he puts a good swing on the ball right there, we're only up one run."

"I honestly thought [Dee's] at-bat to start the game off, he battles and walks there. To me, it puts Nola in a spot where he's trying to be quick [to the plate]. Yelich gets the hit and all of a sudden, Ozuna hits the homer. I thought Dee's at-bat, in that kind of game. We won a couple. When you're playing an early game, it's very easy to be flat.
