NEW YORK -- The Yankees are beginning to fill out their Spring Training roster, announcing that they have signed bullpen hopefuls Danny Coulombe and Rex Brothers to Minor League contracts with invitations to big league camp.
Coulombe went 1-1 with a 4.56 ERA in 27 appearances with the Athletics in 2018. The 29-year-old left-hander also pitched in 23 games (one start) with Triple-A Nashville, going 2-1 with a 2.54 ERA.
Over parts of five Major League seasons, Coulombe owns a 6-4 record with a 4.27 ERA in 153 outings with the Dodgers (2014-15) and A's ('15-18).
A 31-year-old lefty, Brothers made one appearance with the Braves in 2018 after being named to the Opening Day roster. He appeared in 43 combined games with Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett, going 5-5 with one save and a 6.20 ERA.
Over parts of seven Major League seasons with the Rockies (2011-15) and Braves ('17-18), Brothers is 20-14 with 20 saves and a 3.79 ERA in 314 outings.
Additionally, the Yankees announced that the Angels claimed right-handed reliever Parker Bridwell off waivers.
The 27-year-old Bridwell had been claimed in early December, but the Yankees designated him for assignment last week in order to clear space for left-hander J.A. Happ on the 40-man roster.
When a player's contract is designated for assignment -- often abbreviated "DFA" -- that player is immediately removed from his club's 40-man roster, and 25-man roster if he was on that as well. Within seven days of the transaction (it was previously 10 days), the player must either be traded, released or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.
Yankees pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Fla., on Feb. 13.
