Former Rangers pitcher Darren Oliver and his wife Melissa will be hosting nine families, including 24 children, who are part of Arlington Urban Ministries S.A.F.E. (Securing Arlington's Families on the Edge) Program at a holiday event tonight, Thursday, December 15, at 6:30 p.m. at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

Families will gather in the KidsZone to enjoy photos with Santa and a guest appearance by one of Santa's elves, who will fashion balloon art and provide entertainment for the festivities. The group will also enjoy a meal in the Captain Morgan Club, provided by SportsService.

The Olivers will provide each family unit with a $200.00 Walmart gift card, in addition to a $50.00 gift card for each child in the family.

During Oliver's time with the Rangers, the event has become a holiday tradition. The former Rangers draft pick is now entering his fourth season as Special Assistant to General Manager Jon Daniels after a 20-year major league career that included 10 seasons with Texas.

The S.A.F.E. program is designed to help families in immediate financial crisis improve their long-term financial situation through a strong partnership between the clients and Arlington Urban Ministries, as well local agency partners.
