Dahl, Tapia lead Class A Asheville to victory

Pair of Rockies prospects power Tourists in Game 1 of South Atlantic League semifinals

Outfielders David Dahl and Raimel Tapia, the Rockies' No. 3 and 5 prospects, combined for six hits, five runs and three RBIs on Wednesday, as Class A Asheville defeated Savannah, 8-3, in Game 1 of its South Atlantic League semifinal.

Dahl, ranked No. 42 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 100 Prospects list, finished a triple short of the cycle. Dahl went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Tapia, No. 92 on the Top 100, finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI.

Led by Dahl and Tapia, the Tourists' offense gave plenty of support to left-hander Kyle Freeland, the Rockies' No. 4 prospect and No. 70 on the Top 100. He picked up the victory after holding the Sand Gnats to two runs on six hits in five innings. He struck out two batters, walked none and threw 70 pitches.

With the victory Wednesday, Freeland remained undefeated as a professional. He went 3-0 with a 1.15 ERA in 10 starts between Rookie-level Grand Junction and Asheville after the Rockies selected him seventh overall in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.

Dahl began the season with Asheville and earned a promotion to Class A Advanced Modesto in July. He spent a month there, before returning to Asheville for the playoffs. In 119 games between the two levels during the regular season, the 20-year-old hit .299/.335/.492 with 14 home runs and 21 stolen bases.

Tapia has been with the Tourists all season. He hit .326/.382/.453 with nine home runs and 33 stolen bases in 122 games. The 20-year-old ranked third in the league in hitting and sixth in stolen bases.

After a travel day, the best-of-three series moves to Savannah for Game 2 on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET. If necessary, Game 3 would be played Saturday at 6:05 p.m. ET.
