PHOENIX -- D-backs outfielder David Peralta is nearing his return from the disabled list. He will play in a pair of extended spring camp games on Wednesday and Thursday, with the possibility of returning to the club this weekend in Chicago.
"How he feels and how his performance is, those are important things," Arizona manager Chip Hale said.
Peralta will rest on Friday. After that, the D-backs will evaluate whether he will rejoin the team in this weekend's road series against the Cubs or go on a rehab assignment with a Minor League affiliate.
The outfielder has been on the DL since May 15, retroactive to May 9, with right wrist inflammation. Prior to the injury, Peralta was batting .260 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 33 games.
"From the moment we put him on the DL and he started his work, things have improved every day," Hale said. "He just gives us more energy, there's no doubt about it. He's a very good player, that's the biggest thing. He can hit. He's a left-handed hitter. He can hit behind [Paul Goldschmidt], whether it's fourth or fifth. He's a huge part of our offense, so we're excited to get him back and get him back healthy."
