Day after walk-off hit, Vogt remains on Cloud 9

DETROIT -- Even though Stephen Vogt hasn't slept since Saturday night, he still feels like he's dreaming.

"I haven't really processed what happened," said Vogt, addressing reporters at Comerica Park on Sunday afternoon.

What happened was the best moment of his career and the biggest of the A's season to this point. Vogt's walk-off single against Detroit righty Rick Porcello in the ninth inning at the Coliseum on Saturday unlocked a scoreless game and knotted the best-of-five American League Division Series at 1.

Vogt's unlikely heroics, a wondrous moment for a 28-year-old rookie who wasn't on a big league roster at season's start, ensured the A's a healthy dose of momentum as the series shifts to Detroit, where righties Jarrod Parker and Anibal Sanchez will collide in Game 3, to be aired on MLB Network, on Monday at 10 a.m. PT.

"It's been a whirlwind," said Vogt, who arrived in Motown with his teammates around 6:30 a.m. ET. "It's been a crazy, crazy few hours, I suppose. But it's exciting. I've heard from a lot of people. It's been great. Just to see the support and the people that are in my life, have been in my life and just to get that kind of support and those great words from so many people I care about, it's been special."

Even A's manager Bob Melvin has been hearing from countless new members of the Stephen Vogt Fan Club.

"I got a text from Bob Brenly this morning, who made four errors in one inning then hit a walk-off," said Melvin. "He said, 'Stephen Vogt is my new favorite player. Would you please tell him that?'

"It really is a dream come true for him. People who play the game understand the tenacity that he showed in [Saturday's] game."
