SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Royals manager Ned Yost hinted last season that he wouldn't necessarily want to keep managing beyond 2016.
But perhaps winning a World Series championship has made Yost hungry for more.
The Royals announced on Thursday contract extensions for Yost and general manager Dayton Moore -- Yost through 2018, and Moore for an undisclosed period. Both had original deals through '16.
"We're in a really peak period in Kansas City," Yost said. "We have outstanding leaders in Dayton and Mr. [David] Glass, and we have great players. They are fun to be around.
"This is something I looked at and wanted to be a part of for a couple more years."
Yost and Moore have teamed together for three straight winning seasons, two pennants and a World Series title, the Royals' first in 30 years.
"We want to win another world championship," Yost said. "We were 90 feet away from going for a three-peat. We basically have the same crew. They're motivated and want to win another world championship for the city of Kansas City and this organization.
"We have a top-notch organization. The support and belief we have in each other ... that's what makes it fun."
Moore indicated that neither he nor Yost were in a particular hurry to get their contracts extended this offseason, aiming instead to get their players signed first.
"Ned and I have had a pretty good understanding of what his goals are going forward," Moore said. "Ned is a terrific competitor and terrific leader. You look at these things year to year and you don't make any decisions right [after the season]. You need to decompress a little bit ... and it has been a busy offseason. But it's important to make this announcement now."
Added Yost, "We didn't even start talking contracts until the last couple of weeks. I talked it over with my family and I wanted to take it at least through the next three years. I enjoy working with Dayton so much. It was an easy decision."
Moore, too, said the decision to stay past 2016 was an easy call.
"It's a great honor and great privilege to be the general manager of the Royals," Moore said. "I get great support from Mr. Glass and Dan [Glass] and his family, and our whole organization. It's a joy to work alongside Ned and to be his friend, too."
