In his final start of the regular season, Connor Grey made history.
Grey, a D-backs farmhand, recorded the first perfect game in Class A Kane County history on Friday night, tossing nine stellar innings in a 5-0 victory over Clinton. It was the first perfect game thrown in the Midwest League since June 30, 2004, when Chris Coughlin accomplished the feat for Burlington.
"It was an unreal feeling," Grey told MiLB.com. "Our first baseman, Eudy Ramos, was the first one to reach me and then the rest of the infielders and then the bullpen doused me in water. It's what you dream about as a pitcher. The goal every night is to give your team a chance to win, but this is an even better feeling than that."
Staked to a five-run lead before he even took the mound, Grey struck out eight, one shy of his career-high mark, induced eight ground-ball outs and tallied another eight outs in the air.

He ran the count full on three occasions, twice in the second inning, but otherwise was incredibly efficient, tossing 27 pitches over his final three frames to finish with a season-high 100 pitches (70 strikes).
"When I needed a big pitch, I went to my fastball," Grey said. "I was able to command it well tonight, so I was going heavy with the fastball tonight."
Grey has now thrown two complete games in his past three starts for Kane County, though Friday's gem marked the first shutout in 26 career starts for the 23-year-old right-hander.
A 20th-round Draft pick in 2016, Grey has pitched at four different levels in his first full season, even making a pair of appearances (one start) for Triple-A Reno.
He's been at his best in the Midwest League, however, going 3-1 in seven starts while posting a 2.11 ERA with a 39-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 47 innings.
Altogether, Grey has pitched to a 2.87 ERA with 91 strikeouts and nine walks in 103 1/3 innings this season.
