Dealing with bug, Gardy hands off duties Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS -- After leaving Saturday night's 3-2 win at Target Field early due to the stomach flu, Twins manager Ron Gardenhire spent Sunday's 7-1 loss in his office, and handed over managing duties to bench coach Terry Steinbach.

The Twins skipper met with the media on Sunday morning and noted that he was still feeling under the weather and hadn't eaten anything recently. At the time, he was unsure about whether he would be in the dugout for the game.

Gardenhire left Saturday's contest during the fifth inning and missed seeing Chris Colabello's first career RBI -- a game-tying run in the sixth -- in person.

"Well, I had an IV in my arm and I had monitors on me, so it was wonderful," Gardenhire said. "My heart rate went up. They almost put me in an ambulance when he got the hit. It was actually really nice to see."
