DENVER -- Denard Span didn't get to observe the entire Memorial Day weekend. For him, one day off sufficed as well as three.
After resting Saturday to enable his bruised right hip to heal, Span returned to center field with a vengeance in Sunday's series finale against the Colorado Rockies. He clobbered a long home run among his three hits and threw out a runner at third base to hasten the Giants' 15th victory in their last 17 games, an 8-3 decision.
"It looked like that day off served him well," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

Span played Friday night's series opener but was somewhat limited by his injury, which he sustained Wednesday when he collided with the AT&T Park wall as he pursued a drive hit by San Diego's Melvin Upton Jr.
Span's swing certainly looked healthy, particularly when he launched a fourth-inning drive off Rockies starter Chris Rusin that landed 441 feet away, according to Statcast™. Span, who has hit 39 career home runs, issued his own estimate.
"It was probably one of the two hardest balls I've ever hit," Span said.

Span also sparkled defensively in the second inning when he grabbed Mark Reynolds' fly ball with a slight running start. That gave him the impetus to unleash a strong throw to third base that apprehended Gerardo Parra, who doubled to lead off the inning. Parra was initially called safe, but a replay review demonstrated that Giants third baseman Matt Duffy tagged Parra on his right foot before he made contact with the bag.
"It felt good to make a throw like that," said Span, who jokingly added, "A couple of years ago [Parra] would have been out by a mile."
