Hunter tweaks shoulder, says he's 'good' for Game 4

Outfielder injured on diving attempt for fly ball in first inning Monday

DETROIT -- Coco Crisp's leadoff double past Torii Hunter's diving attempt wasn't just a good break for the A's offense in Game 3 of their 6-3 win in the American League Division Series. It was a bad break for Hunter, who spent the rest of the game playing through an injured left shoulder.

Hunter said it won't affect his status for Game 4 on Tuesday, which starts at 5 p.m. ET.

"I think it's more a bruise," Hunter said. "We got X-rays and nothing's torn or anything like that."

The attempt could've resulted in much worse. Hunter went flying after Crisp's first-inning gapper, stretching out his glove in the attempt and leaving his arm outstretched as he hit the ground. Hunter indicated his shoulder didn't roll or pop out, but the impact "jarred it a little bit."

"Torii almost made a fantastic play," Crisp said. "I was hoping it would get down, and it did."

Hunter played through the next nine innings that way.

"I battled through it," he said. "That's all you can do. Adrenaline takes over. That's your pain reliever, and that's what I did today."

That's what he expects to do Tuesday as well, no matter what level of soreness he's feeling.

"It's the playoffs. Nothing to complain about," he said. "Give me an Advil. I'm good."
