TORONTO -- Second baseman Devon Travis was held out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup for the second consecutive game on Wednesday night against the Orioles because of a left shoulder injury.
Travis sustained the injury during Monday night's benches-clearing fracas with the Yankees. The 25-year-old hurt his surgically repaired shoulder during a scrum, and he aggravated it during a fourth-inning strikeout.
"He's making progress," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "We'll see [when he's able to return]."
Prior to hurting his shoulder, Travis had settled in as Toronto's leadoff hitter. Travis, who has hit a team-leading .299 with 10 home runs and 49 RBIs in 97 games, is expected to be re-evaluated on a daily basis.
The injury comes at a critical time for the Blue Jays, who entered Wednesday with a two-game lead atop the American League Wild Card standings.

Ryan Goins got the start at second base in Travis' absence, batting ninth, while left fielder Ezequiel Carrera was back in Travis' leadoff spot for the second straight game. Carrera went 2-for-3 with his sixth home run and scored three runs in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over Baltimore.
"He's filled in great for us this season," Gibbons said about Carrera. "He's been a spark for us with all these injuries."

Monday's skirmish with the Yankees also led to reliever Joaquin Benoit's left calf injury, and Gibbons spoke about replacing the veteran in the seventh inning with a committee, with Brett Cecil and Joe Biagini expected to see expanded roles.
"There's no more just locking in like, 'Hey, Benoit's got this inning,' and you let him do his thing before handing it over to [Jason Grilli and Roberto Osuna]," Gibbons said. "It's key you get some innings out of your starters, too. That would make things easier."
Cecil has been one of Toronto's best relievers in the season's second half, thanks in part to a lighter workload for the veteran southpaw. Cecil has not allowed a run over his past 14 outings, but the 30-year-old has totaled just 8 1/3 innings over that span.
Biagini, a rookie right-hander, lowered his ERA to 2.74 with two scoreless innings on Tuesday.
