DENVER -- Coming into the series against the Rockies, Cubs center fielder Dexter Fowler had just three hits in his last 21 at-bats and five hits in his last 30. Perhaps a return to hitter-friendly Coors Field is just what he needed to get back on track.
Fowler came up big in the first game of the series with a leadoff homer and go-ahead single in the 11th on Friday night. He followed that with a 2-for-4 performance, scoring two runs in the Cubs' 9-2 victory Saturday night.
Fowler entered Saturday with a .298 career average at Coors Field -- he played with the Rockies from 2008-13 -- hitting 29 of his 75 home runs there.
"You've still got to hit," Fowler said of his history at Coors. "If you don't get good pitches to hit or you get too big here -- and it's easy to get too big here because the ball flies -- you've got to stay on your game and hit the ball hard and let it do what it does."

Cubs manager Joe Maddon remembers facing Fowler and being impressed with how he hit in Colorado. He suspects that the familiarity with Denver helps Fowler, and that he could get back into gear soon.
"I just think that some players have favorite ballparks," Maddon said. "They have favorite teams to play against. Why? I have no idea. But I think that's true.
"He's been playing really well for us. He's the guy that got us off to the good start we had at the beginning of the season. He was a really instrumental part of that. He got hurt, came back, started quickly, backed off a little bit, but I think you'll see another good run out of him soon."
