Lamet starts second straight shutout win

Division-leading TinCaps have won 5 straight during 13-2 run

Right-handed starter Dinelson Lamet and relievers Nick Monroe and Kyle McGrath combined for Fort Wayne's second straight shutout Thursday night, as low Class A Fort Wayne won a fifth straight game and a 10th straight home game at Parkview Field.

Lamet, 4-6 with a 3.18 ERA, allowed six hits and three walks with seven strikeouts in five innings.

Right-hander Monroe (1.54 ERA) allowed a hit and two walks with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. Left-hander Kyle McGrath (2.03) allowed a hit with four strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings for his second save.

Center fielder Michael Gettys (.228) was 2-for-4 with his sixth homer and a stolen base. Catcher Jose Ruiz (.220) had a triple in three at-bats with a run scored. Outfielder Edwin Moreno (.295) was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The TinCaps are 13-2 over their last 15 games, and are 29-17 in the second half of the Midwest League season to lead the Eastern Division by 2 1/2 games. Fort Wayne is 61-53 overall.

CF Travis Jankowski (.407) was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. 2B Cory Spangenberg (.250) was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, two walks and two runs scored. Starting RHP Chris Smith (3.64 ERA) allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts in 4 2/3 innings. RHP Michael Dimock (0.84) allowed two hits and a walk with a strikeout in 1 1/3 scoreless innings. RHP Nick Vincent (3.45) allowed a hit and a walk in 1 2/3 scoreless innings. HIGH SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (43-73): Bakersfield 11, STORM 5 -- SS Chase Jensen (.282) had a three-run triple in three at-bats. DH Nick Torres (.306) was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, a hit-by-pitchrer and a run scored. RF Donavan Tate (.216) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk for two runs scored. Starting RHP Kyle Lloyd (5-9, 4.84) allowed eight runs (five earned) on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. RHP Bryan Verbitsky (2.95) allowed a hit and a walk with a strikeout in 1 2/3 innings. RHP Jason Jester (3.38) allowed a run on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings.

SHORT-SEASON SINGLE-A TRI-CITY (29-24): Boise 4, TRI-CITY 0 -- LF Jose Carlos Urena (.292) was 2-for-3 with a double. C A.J. Kennedy (.279) was 2-for-4 with a double. Starting RHP angel Mejia (2-3, 6.02 ERA) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings. RHP Braxton Lorenzini (4.30) allowed two hits with two strikeouts in a scoreless inning to record his first professional save.

SS Luis Guzman (.139) was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a stolen base. Starting RHP Adrian Martinez (5.56) allowed two hits with five strikeouts over four shutout innings. RHP Erick De Los Santos (3-1, 7.67 ERA) was credited for the win although he allowed three runs on a hit and three walks with a strikeout in one-third of an inning. RHP Jonathan Guzman (3.03) issued a walk with a strikeout in two otherwise perfect innings. RHP Luis Perez (2.16) allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit and two walks with a strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.
