Do It For Durrett 80's Night set for July 9 at Globe Life Park

Do It For Durrett Foundation helps worthy families; Tickets go on sale Monday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m.

The Do It For Durrett spirit lives on.

The Do It For Durrett Foundation, which was started as a way to honor the way sports reporter Richard Durrett lived, has a totally radical event planned for Thursday, July 9 at the Cholula Porch at Globe Life Park.

The Do It for Durrett 80s Night event will feature performances by current members of the Texas Rangers, country music star Casey Donahew and plenty of other surprises that will make you remember the decade when MTV actually played music.

There will also be live and silent auctions as well as the auctioning off of a lucky few athletes for date nights.

The event begins at 7 p.m. and everyone is encouraged to bust out their Ocean Pacific shorts, parachute pants and retro Air Jordans and wear their best 80s clothes to the event. There will be prizes for the best dressed as well as a DJ spinning music from the 80s.

The Do It For Durrett Foundation raises money for families impacted by sudden loss. This year's event will benefit the family of Jason Dugger. Dugger, who knew Richard Durrett and worked with him at the Dallas Morning News, died suddenly last year at 41 and left behind a wife (Lauren) and two sons (Evan and Ryan).

"I know how much Richard loved helping people and this is something he'd embrace with all of his heart," said Kelly Durrett, Richard's widow and the mother of their three children and the driving force being the Do It For Durrett Foundation. "The ability to help a family in need fits with Richard's personality so well. In talking with Lauren I know how much the family appreciates what's happening."

Tickets go on sale Monday, June 1, at 10 a.m., and are available at doitfordurrett.com for $35. The ticket includes dinner as well as an event t-shirt. A limited number of VIP tickets for $100 are also available. Tables of eight can also be purchased for $250. All tickets at the door are $40.

While the performances will be what people are talking about the next day, the auctions once again are phenomenal. A trip to spring training to watch the Rangers, a trip to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, a Texas Motor Speedway ticket package and sitting courtside with Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban are just a few of the experiences that will be available.

The silent auction will feature one-of-a-kind memorabilia from some of the biggest names in baseball, football, basketball and hockey. Hall of Famer Craig Biggio, former Texas Rangers star Nelson Cruz, Mavericks superstar Dirk Nowitzki, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo are just a few of the athletes' memorabilia that will be up for bid. There's also a ticket package from Wade Bowen, who performed at last year's event.

Please help us spread the word about Do It For Durrett 80s Night. The website, www.doitfordurrett.com, will be updated frequently with more information and a complete list of live auction items as well as an updated silent auction list. The Twitter address is @doitfordurrett.
