Minor League managers in place for 2016
Haselman promoted to Triple-A; Garko to head Double-A
LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers announced their Minor League managers on Monday, with Bill Haselman at Triple-A Oklahoma City, Ryan Garko at Double-A Tulsa, Drew Saylor at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga, Gil Velazquez at Class A Great Lakes, Shaun Larkin at Rookie Advanced Ogden and John Shoemaker at Rookie Arizona League Dodgers.
Haselman, 49, managed Rancho Cucamonga to a California League title in 2015, his third year in the organization and sixth as a Minor League manager. He played 13 big league seasons with the Rangers, Mariners, Red Sox and Tigers.
Garko, 34, takes over Tulsa after 10 professional seasons as an outfielder, catcher and first baseman, including six big league seasons with the Indians, Giants and Rangers. After his playing career ended, Garko was an assistant coach at Stanford University, where he played college ball prior to being selected by Cleveland in the third round of the 2003 Draft.
Saylor, 31, joins the Dodgers' organization after four years in the Rockies' system as hitting coach for Rookie Advanced Grand Junction and Class A Advanced Modesto, and manager for Class A Tri-City. Prior to his time in the Colorado organization, Saylor served as an assistant coach at the University of Akron and Cleveland State University following a five-year professional career in the Astros and Marlins' systems.
Velazquez, 36, will manage for the first time following his debut last season as the fourth coach for the Rookie AZL Dodgers. He had a 17-year career as an infielder, including five big league seasons with the Red Sox, Angels and Marlins.
Larkin, 36, joins the Dodgers following three seasons in the Indians organization. He served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Cal State Northridge, Orange Coast College and Newport Harbor High School in 2009. Selected by the Indians in the ninth round of the 2002 Draft, Larkin played six professional seasons as an infielder in the Cleveland organization from 2002-07.
After serving as Ogden's manager in 2015, Shoemaker will lead the AZL Dodgers in his 40th season in the organization and 23rd season as a Minor League manager. Drafted by the Dodgers in the 35th round of the 1977 Draft, Shoemaker has been with the club ever since, as a player, manager, coach and coordinator, and, last season, he was appointed as the Dodgers' "Captain" of player development.
