SAN FRANCISCO -- Same score, different finish.
This time, it was the San Francisco Giants who squandered a late lead as the Los Angeles Dodgers inched by them to capture a 3-2 decision in 10 innings Saturday. That was the final score in San Francisco's 10-inning victory Friday. This time, the Giants led in the ninth, 2-1, yet couldn't maintain the advantage while using six relievers in the last four innings. Charlie Culberson, a former Giants farmhand, rapped a 10th-inning double to drive in Corey Seager from second with the winning run.
The Dodgers forced extra innings in the ninth as reserve second baseman Kelby Tomlinson, giving Joe Panik a day off, bobbled Adrian Gonzalez's potential double-play grounder with the bases loaded and one out. Chase Utley scored the tying run as Tomlinson had to settle for throwing out Gonzalez at first base.

Asked whether he thought Gonzalez's grounder was hit hard enough to generate a double play, Giants manager Bruce Bochy replied, "I think it was, with Gonzo running. It might have been close."
But Bochy also defended Tomlinson, saying he never considered inserting Panik at that juncture: "That's not a reason to take Tommy out. You saw him last year. He's got a good glove and good range. He just didn't make the play."
Besides, Bochy added, "there were some other things that came into play there."
One issue was closer Santiago Casilla's command.
"He had good stuff," Bochy said. However, Casilla also walked Utley and hit Justin Turner with a pitch to help load the bases.
"We fought and clawed and basically stole one from a very good closer," said Dodgers catcher A.J. Ellis.
Earlier, Giants starter Madison Bumgarner not only struck out eight in six innings but also homered off Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw for the second time in two years.

"He hit it pretty good," Kershaw said of Bumgarner's home run. "Any time you give up a home run to a pitcher doesn't feel very good. He's a little different, a pretty solid hitter, but don't want to give up a hit to a pitcher, let alone a home run."
MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Home run trivia:Ehire Adrianza gave the Giants their temporary lead when he lined a tiebreaking homer in the fifth inning. It was his second career homer. Adrianza's first round-tripper came on Sept. 22, 2013, at Yankee Stadium off Andy Pettitte. Since then, he hadn't homered in 223 at-bats. Additionally, the Giants have homered in six consecutive games to start the season, matching their franchise record dating back to 1913. They also accomplished this in 1948 and 2000.
Painful run: The Dodgers' third-inning run scored when Scott Van Slyke was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, but he injured his back earlier in the game and was removed after reaching first base.

Minor mistake: Giants third baseman Matt Duffy mishandled Van Slyke's first-inning grounder and thus recorded the team's initial fielding error of the season. Duffy immediately atoned by handling Trayce Thompson's grounder and throwing to second base for an inning-ending forceout that left the bases loaded.
Not clutch: The Dodgers went 2-for-21 with runners in scoring position. Three of the first six innings ended with the Dodgers stranding runners on third base, twice with the bases loaded.

INJURY BUG BITES
After Carl Crawford went on the disabled list before the game, the Dodgers' shorthanded roster lost Van Slyke in the third and didn't receive reinforcements until Micah Johnson's eighth-inning arrival from Triple-A, which moved Culberson to left field for the first time since 2013. Winning pitcher Chris Hatcher struck out the side in the ninth, but also twisted his left knee stumbling on the muddy mound.

WHAT'S NEXT
Dodgers: The opening trip concludes with Scott Kazmir starting in Sunday's 1:05 p.m. PT game, after allowing only one hit and being removed after pitching six scoreless innings in his season debut. Rookie Austin Barnes is expected to catch Kazmir, as he did in San Diego.
Giants: Offseason free-agent acquisition Johnny Cueto will make his AT&T Park debut as a Giant on Sunday when he faces the Dodgers in the 1:05 p.m. PT series finale. Cueto is 2-5 in eight career starts against Los Angeles despite a 2.79 ERA.
