LOS ANGELES -- Heading into a rubber match against the Padres, Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal ensured that the Dodgers wouldn't lose their first series since the first week of June as they homered to push Los Angeles past San Diego, 6-4, on Sunday at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers -- who have played 19 straight series without a series loss and who have gone 28-5 since July 4 -- improved their Major League-best record to 83-34 and are on pace for 115 wins, one shy of the MLB record set by the 2001 Seattle Mariners.
"I think we take pride in just how we play the game," manager Dave Roberts said. "When you're hearing things, people get ahead of things, different things in a Major League season happen, success, struggle, whatever it may be. For us each day to come in and win a game, that's the thing we're most excited about and obviously is a byproduct of us winning a lot of games."
San Diego tagged Dodgers righty Kenta Maeda for two runs in the first, after Cory Spangenberg clubbed his ninth homer of the season, and a sac fly from William Myers. But like they have done most of the season, the Dodgers rallied, putting together a five-run fourth inning in which Padres righty Luis Perdomo faced the entire order. Turner started the rally with a three-run homer and Grandal capped it off with two-run shot.
With the exception of the fourth, the Dodgers failed to do much against Perdomo, who allowed no hits and one walk in his other five innings.
Turner added a solo homer in the eighth.

Maeda matched a season high with eight strikeouts, but Spangenberg found success against the right-hander, homering twice on the day, also smacking a two-run shot in the sixth. The Padres couldn't rally, though, as the Dodgers won their 16th series in their past 19, with three series splits scattered in.

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Taking one for the team: Through three innings, the Dodgers were held without a hit against Perdomo, but things changed in the fourth. Perdomo plunked Chris Taylor on his arm to lead off the frame, helping to set the stage for the Dodgers' comeback.
"In Perdomo's case today, he had been nine batters, hadn't even been in the stretch," Padres manager Andy Green said. "It wasn't till his 11th batter. He hit Taylor, then he went in the stretch, and the command wasn't as sharp from the stretch. … But for me, I walk away from this baseball game thinking Luis Perdomo did some really solid things to keep us in a baseball game after a really rough inning, giving us an opportunity to fight back."
Stopped short:Manuel Margot caused the Dodgers troubles this weekend, smacking two homers during the series. Margot showed up again, this time in the top of the eighth, hitting a leadoff double against Luis Avilan. After a groundout moved Margot over to third, the Padres were in position to tie the ballgame. But Avilan would settle in, getting two groundouts and big strikeout against Jose Pirela to extinguish the scoring threat.
"[Pirela] hasn't been pitched that way at the Major League level before," Green said. "That's a learning process. You want to win, you've got to overcome that."

For the 57th straight game, the Dodgers had at least two extra-base hits (three homers and a double), extending a record they broke earlier this month that had been set by the 1937 Yankees (49 games).
