MIAMI -- Clayton Kershaw said on Saturday that he was physically fine one day after his first start in more than two months and is expected to start again on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.
Kershaw was removed after throwing 66 pitches over three innings in the Dodgers' 4-1 loss to the Marlins after being sidelined since June 27 with a herniated disk in his lower back. Kershaw played catch on Saturday, as he normally would the day after pitching in a game.
"That was for me bigger than the results and the line score yesterday, just to see how he felt today," manager Dave Roberts said. "You see him walking around with a smile. Talking to our training staff, they said he came out of it well. He's still on track for Wednesday."
The Dodgers decided to bring Kershaw back after only one three-inning rehab start in the Minor Leagues, rather than have him pitch in a Minor League postseason game. The Dodgers plan on Kershaw making three more regular-season starts as he rebuilds arm strength.
Worth noting
Scott Kazmir, who underwent medical tests this week after leaving a Wednesday night rehab game with a recurrence of a thoracic injury, was diagnosed with thoracic spine inflammation. There is no timetable for his return.
