Jansen eyes season debut this weekend

LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen checked off another box on Tuesday in his deliberate recovery from left foot surgery, going through fielding drills with no setback.

Jansen said his final exam will come Wednesday night, when he makes his last rehab appearance for Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga. If he comes out of that healthy, he is expected to be activated this weekend, roughly two months after having a benign growth removed from his foot.

"Everything feels normal now," Jansen said. "I'll go all-out tomorrow and be back Saturday."

Jansen said he will start Wednesday night's game and pitch one inning. There will be no limitations on fielding bunts or covering first base.

"It's my last outing and I'll take it like a shutdown inning in the big leagues," he said.

In other rehab news, reliever Joel Peralta said the strength is coming back in his right shoulder after a pinched nerve in his neck had him fearing surgery. He said he hopes to soon advance to playing catch.
