PHOENIX -- Cody Bellinger went from the disabled list to the Dodgers' starting lineup vs. the D-backs on Wednesday, when manager Dave Roberts also confirmed that Brock Stewart would be recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to make a spot-start in the opener of Saturday's day-night doubleheader in San Diego.
Utility man James Farmer was optioned to OKC to make room for Bellinger, who missed 10 days with a right ankle sprain that the rookie first baseman pronounced was fully healed after he slugged a three-run homer in a Tuesday night rehab game in the Arizona League.
"He says he feels great," Roberts said. "To have him batting fourth in the lineup puts other players in their rightful spot. A guy like Cody, with his power potential, seems to always be looming. It's hard to ignore our ballclub offensively, the win-loss when he's in our lineup [76-21] and when he's not [15-18]. A lot of that is real. He adds a lot to our ballclub."
The news was more muddled on shortstop Corey Seager, who is being held back by management because of a sore right elbow. Roberts said Seager was still available to pinch-hit, but offered no clarity on how long Seager's throwing arm would be shut down. Seager didn't work out on the field before Wednesday night's game.
"I haven't talked to him today," said Roberts. "I planned on having him down today regardless. I know he's getting treatment and he's not going to be throwing. I would assume with the limited activity, there's going to be some improvement."
Roberts also said Andre Ethier, who has been on the disabled list all year with a herniated disk in his lower back, has had his rehab stint at Oklahoma City interrupted by a sore neck. Nonetheless, Roberts said Ethier will be activated when rosters expand on Friday.
